Lighting: Bright, indirect light is best. Variegated cacti can be more sensitive to intense sunlight than solid green varieties. While they need plenty of sun to maintain their vibrant colours, too much direct, harsh sun can cause sunburn.

Watering: Water sparingly and cautiously. As desert plants, variegated Opuntia are drought-tolerant. The most common cause of problems is overwatering, which leads to root rot. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings during the growing season (spring and summer). Water infrequently or not at all during the dormant period in fall and winter.
