A messenger from another time

This piece is a little different from my usual work, but that’s exactly why it’s so special to me. A Magpie’s Call was born from a desire to experiment, to push my creativity in new directions. Inspired by the deep, moody tones of the Art Deco era, I wanted to create something that felt both nostalgic and bold. A piece that stands out yet carries a quiet story within it.

The magpie, perched on a vintage phone, feels like a messenger from another time. It reminds me of the way certain sounds, like a magpie’s warble or the ring of an old phone can transport us to another place, another memory.

Originally created with coloured pencils and gouache, this piece is the start of a new chapter for me, a balance between familiar comforts and creative exploration. I hope it resonates with you as much as it does with me.
