Growing your own citrus can be fun and rewarding. They are not hard to care for as long as they get enough light and you pot them in well-draining soil with lots of organic matter.
Light: Citrus need 8-12 hours of full sun per day. This makes a south-facing window the only option unless you use supplemental lighting. Even then, citrus require supplemental lighting from October to February to maintain good health during the winter months.
Water: Keep the soil on the drier side of moist. Be sure to water only with water that is at room temperature. Citrus do not appreciate cold water.
Fertilizer: Fertilize every 3 weeks spring through summer and every 6 weeks during fall and winter.
