La Guigasse, from the lieu-dit of the same name, is a slightly less elevated parcel than Le Grand Pin, with yellow-brown sands mingled with a little more clay. Harvesting and vinification are identical in order to maximise terroir differences. This, too, is a translucent garnet-red in colour with graceful, layered red fruits which seem to hint at forest pine needles and warm resin rather than the sweet floral notes of Le Grand Pin (confusingly, given the parcel names). The palate is slightly more mouthfilling and masterful, with a little more grip to the wine; the stems seem to have surrendered more here. The strawberry, plum and wild cherry fruits give way gracefully enough to a renewed sense of warm tree resins and thyme-flower honey, though these notes are very subtly achieved, almost impalpable – just enough to keep the drinker returning to the glass.
