“Waiting in the woods (I) is part of the Tatsuniya II series, the second chapter of a project which began in 2017. Most of the images were taken at Shehu Sanda Kyarimi school in Maiduguri, Nigeria, whose students perform for – and collaborate on – the project.

Tatsuniya II is about the intangible things that happen when you bring a group of young women together and allow for creative expression. Whilst the trauma that the Boko Haram conflict has inflicted on the young is a difficult point of departure, this series is about making space to be present with the present, and how something undefined can be stimulated by playful interaction.”
