• This is a rare black linen top from the 1980s. It is incredibly difficult to find pieces from this era in this condition.
• It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld
• The top is made of a beautiful high end black linen that has a very tight, smooth weave. You can instantly see the quality of the fabric when you see this in person.
• The top feels like something that you would have seen a supermodel wear on a runway back in its day.
• It has a neat notched collar and buttons to close with a widely spaced double row of buttons down the front. The buttons are all gold toned and etched around their edges and each has the famous Chanel four leaf clover at their centre.
• Set between the row of buttons is a vertical pleated detail that adds interest. This runs from the collar to the hem.
• More pleats sit at the top of the shoulders and these follow the softly sloping shoulder line and then extend into the sleeves. There is light padding inside each shoulder to help hold that shape.
• The sleeves are little works of art. The upper portion of the sleeve is set extremely wide and full into the body of the top and then they narrow down in at the wrist. The narrowing effect is created by a series of flat pleating the fabric all the way around the arm just above the seam of the cuff. I have taken a close-up for you to see. It is just incredible workmanship. Each cuff has two more of those four leaf lucky clover Chanel buttons.
• The cut is easy and boxy through the body. It is meant to be oversized. I love that its length will allow you to tuck it into anything for added shape and you could even belt it. The double row of buttons at the front give it and almost jacket feel so it has a lot of versatility.
• The top is unlined and buttons to close down the front and at each cuff. The oversized fit will work on a variety of sizes. It will just feel more oversized on a smaller frame.
