In 1987, the New York Times described Victor Costa as “widely recognized as a significant contributor to the current vogue for flamboyant, super-feminine dresses that bare the shoulders, hug the waistline and billow and swirl over the hips.” Created exclusively for Saks Fifth Avenue, this playful mini-dress displays many of Costa’s design signatures - brash florals, tulle-lined rah-rah skirt, V-shaped corset waist and a sweetheart neckline. The cut-out front and back add a modernity that feels ahead of its time. Made from cotton, the dress fastens at the back with a concealed zip and two glistening black buttons secure the neck. The dress is fully lined in a silky feel acetate/viscose. The perfect 1980s event dress for the warmer seasons, it is in excellent vintage condition with no faults of any note. The size label is no longer present but we estimate a best fit for around a UK 12 or US 8. Our model (5ft 11in / 180cm) is a UK 8-10 and this dress was roomy on her.
