This beautiful cream‑colored silk evening dress, dating to around 1864, comes from the distinguished collection of Lyn Hopwood. When this gown was worn in England, the American Civil War was unfolding across the Atlantic - placing this piece firmly within a moment of global historical significance.

The silk has a soft cream base tone, printed with charming blue and pink pansies, giving the dress a romantic and refined appearance typical of mid‑Victorian fashion. The round skirt ends in a small train and is finished with a delicate lace border along the lower hemline. A vertical row of small pleated bows decorates the front of the skirt, adding texture and elegance.

The ensemble includes two bodices, both worn with a matching belt featuring a small purple bow at the front. The skirt and belt are in very good condition, with only a few tiny stains.

The evening bodice features a semi‑circular neckline trimmed with deep purple pleated silk, which also appears on the short sleeves. These sleeves are further embellished with lace. The bodice closes with a row of beautiful decorative buttons. Condition is very good, with only subtle signs of wear.

The day bodice has half‑length sleeves, closes at the front, and is richly decorated with lace. Lace is also applied to the shoulders and around the V‑shaped neckline. It remains in very good condition, showing only minor discoloration, small stains, and very moderate signs of age.
