This original artwork is an interpretation of the waterways of the east coast of Australia, our beautiful Gumbaynggirr Country. The large circle in the middle is a meeting place where family and friends come together to celebrate, share food and connect. The blue tones represent the gaagal ocean, & the bindarray rivers. Traditionally our mob lived off the gaagal and bindarray eating fresh fish, prawns, crabs and oysters off the rocks daily. (And still do) but back then it was more plentiful and our elders shared with neighboring tribes, that is why we are known as the 'sharing people'. The birthing caves depicted at the bottom represent creation & continuous connection.
