Jules Tournier is a French manufacturer of luxury wool fabrics for ready to wear and haute couture clients since 1865. The company’s renowned fabric weaving talents can be seen in the multi-colour stitching of this felted, mohair wool jacket; the fabric revealing hints of lilac, mustard, azure and black. Gathered stitching at the shoulders and sleeves create a feminine balloon sleeve, complimenting the elegant A-line cut and mandarin collar. The jacket fastens with mauve buttons, has concealed side pockets and is fully lined with coordinating mauve satin. The label reads “Jules Tournier Made in France” in metallic silver thread on black and is finished with a silver chain hanging loop. An additional ILGWU label (1974 to 1995) is located in a side seam.

We think this is most likely a late 1970s to early 1980s design. The jacket is in very good vintage condition; we noted a miniscule pin-sized chip to one of the buttons and some of the lining seams have been resewn neatly. Labelled a US 10, it is true to size and equates to UK 12-14.
