1940's royal blue Mexican souvenir jacket with beautiful super colorful applique detail on front and back. This jacket has a wonderful array of traditional Mexican scenes such as banana trees, cacti, vases, blankets and people going about their business. It's beautifully done. This was purchased at a local estate sale and came with a note left by the original owner. A photo of the note is attached and I will include it with the jacket. The note says this jacket was handmade for her in the 40s when she was 8 - she lived in Arizona at the time and they were quite popular in the American southwest. It is however a generous size for an 8 year old and they were more popular in the 50s. Makes me wonder a little if she had her dates a bit wrong, but they were a prominent family in our community, her husband was the principal of the local downtown high school for a number of years. 

Being handmade there are no tags in this jacket. However it is so beautifully made. I've been lucky enough to restore and resell quite a few of these Mexican souvenir jackets and this is one of the most detailed I've seen. I did give it a soak and steam and fixed a few small seam separations so the condition now is excellent with no holes, stains or odors. 

Size is a modern medium or around a size 6-8 and the measurements are as follows: 

Bust - 38" (but open)

Length - 24.5"
